***Electricians Hire New Coach ***

MARQUETTE - The Marquette Electricians are bringing back one of their own behind the bench.

A search committee for the Midget AAA hockey team has named former player Jim Jackson as coach, chairman Brad Sullivan announced late on Sunday.

"This is an exciting challenge as we try to take Electrician hockey to the next level in a year full of change," Jackson, 33, said in a news release from the Marquette Junior Hockey Corporation.

This will be in his first head-coaching job, though he was an assistant coach under Mike L'Huillier at Marquette Senior High School last season.

He also has a number of years of professional playing experience along with his playing time with the Electricians from 1995-97, which includes the 1996 team that captured a state championship.

He later played as a junior with Des Moines of the U.S. Hockey League before joining Northern Michigan University and played defenseman there from 1999-2003.

Jackson played as a pro for nine seasons in a number of leagues both in the U.S. and abroad, including the East Coast, American and Central hockey leagues and in Germany, Denmark, the Czech Republic, South Korea and Norway. He also attended the St. Louis Blues NHL training camp in 2008.

"I am committed to the individual success and development of our players," Jackson said in the release. "The integral part of restoring the programs winning tradition will be a result of the hard work and dedication by both the players and coaches.

"The new look of the (Northern Lakes Hockey League) and Midget AAA hockey landscape offers a unique opportunity for our student-athletes."

Sullivan, who said that the 11-person committee picked Jackson over 13 other candidates, was also excited with Jackson's hiring.

"Jim's extensive experiences as a player coupled with his incredible enthusiasm for rolling up his sleeves and facing the team's challenges head-on make him the right choice to lead the Electricians as we head into a new a new season this fall," Sullivan said.

Jackson is employed by RE/MAX 1st Realty.
