2013-2014 - Skill Development Mites

The Skills Development Program (Initiation Mites) will meet on Wednesdays at 6:00 PM on the Russell (big) Arena, and on Saturdays at 11:30 AM on the Olson (small) Arena.

Hockey Stick pick-up is still available in the MJHC Office if you did not get a hockey stick for your player.

The program began Wednesday, Oct. 2, and runs through Wednesday, February 26, 2014. The program will not meet on the following days:

Saturday, December 14 (Tournament)

Wednesday, December 25
Wednesday, January 1

Saturday, February 15 (Figure skating competition)

All parents, coaches and on-ice helpers, if you participate on-ice, our insurance carrier requires that you wear hockey skates and a helmet. You must also register online with USA Hockey, complete an online Mite Level instructional module and fill out a form for background screening.

The Skill Development Program is for boys and girls of all ages and is designed for beginning hockey players who want to learn the basics of the game. The players should know skating basics.  Skill Development focuses on improving skating skills, stick-handling, and positioning.  We usually have cross-ice scrimmage games as the season progresses.
Our goal is to teach hockey skills and improve skating so that in the player’s second year of skating they may progress in the Marquette Junior Hockey program.
Mandatory Equipment for Hockey Programs:
  • Helmet
  • Breezers (hockey pants)
  • Gloves
  • Elbow & Shin Pads
  • Skates
  • Stick
